Twisted Rain Toes
The slide at the small aquatic center in our town. This may be the small aquatic center, but it's got the best tube slide, all twisty and turny, and oh so much fun!
I had to share this. It started about 3:00 a.m. with a very loud and wild thunderstorm. There are people without power and a few trees down. But, it slowed down to a nice soaking rain that has kind of come and gone for about 4 hours or so, looks like it's been about 3 inches of rain total. Everything is wet and we actually have a little bit of mud! It's over now and I really wish it would have just done this all day, but we had rain, and hopefully, this will help our atmosphere create more.
I'm thinking I'm in need of a pedicure, or at least new polish on my toes.

Round and Puppies
My hometown at one time was a railroad town. The Katy Railroad ran across Missouri into St. Charles. There are still sections of track, but most of the bed from that railroad is now a state park. The Katy Trail State Park runs the width of Missouri. It's long and skinny and meant for biking, hiking, walking. It also runs through one of our city parks; Frontier Park which is on our park on the riverfront of the Missouri River. There are two train cars that sit down there as tokens of that era in our history. This is the wheel from one of those train cars.

The Things That Other People Do
It bothers me the way people just throw things out of their car windows. This cup was laying on the road in front of our house today. It makes me wonder if people do not realize that when they throw something out of their car windows that it does not cease to exist. It is left to someone else to pick it up and dispose of it.
his man kayaked on the Missouri River from Kansas City, MO to St. Charles, MO. That is over 300 miles. They left Kansas City on Tuesday, July 31st and made it to St. Charles, today, August 2. According to some of the family members of this man, he averaged about 3.5 mph this year. That is because of the low waters. Last year the average speed was 5 mph. This picture was taken from the riverfront in Washington, MO where they kayakers stopped for a break, before finishing their journey to St. Charles which is about 40 miles from Washington.
This is me waiting at the service department for my van to be inspected. As you can see I was not the only one in the waiting room. Actually, it was almost full.

Happiness
One of my favorite parts of summer is watermelon. I love, love, love watermelon and I am a goddess at picking out a good one. This is our freshest watermelon yet this season. It is so sweet and juicy and I've almost eaten half of it in two days time.

I am still working on my four generations picture. This is one of my options for the two youngest generations (my daughter and me).
Another view of our County Fair that does not include my feet. It's taken from the top of the Ferris Wheel, so it's more of a "from where I sit" than a "from where I stand" but that wouldn't be the first time I did a sitting position picture for this.

Ok, today's 'From Where I Stand' is not looking at my feet, it's looking up from where I was standing, because that view was much more interesting

A Day at County Parks
Caught this little guy while out at one of our county parks. We were at Indian Camp Creek Park by the lake.
I thought I'd try to give an idea of our drought situation around here. This is a collage I made of the lake at one of my favorite parks. On the left is a photo taken on July 26th, 2012 of the lake. On the right is a photo taken in the beginning of August of 2011.
There has been no SUBSTANTIAL rain here since March. We've had a few spot showers, but nothing that can even begin to repair the damage of so many weeks without rain. This collage really does not do this poor lake justice. It made me so sad when we went there today. It's really starting to concern me. They have even taken down the fishing regulations sign as there is no fishing allowed at this time.
Lately we are taking every opportunity we can to get wet, even if it's just our feet. This was taken at Indian Camp Creek Park on the playground next to the lake.

Playing in the Fountains
We had a lot of fun playing in the fountains at Tower Grove Park. I was a little disappointed that the wading pool was not completely full, but I'm sure they're trying to conserve water.

Paddle Boating
The kids and I went to Forest Park (St. Louis) today and rented a paddle boat. We got to spend an hour out on the water ways in Forest Park. It was really hot, but we still enjoyed ourselves. At least there was a strong breeze.
This is another picture taken while we were out on the paddle boat. I had a little bit of fun processing it.
When we went out on the paddle boat, I sat in back and let the kids have control over driving the boat. That meant I got to just snap pictures at my leisure.

Stars, Husband, Son, Daughter
My entry for the Street Photography Now challenge this week on 365project. The theme was "under the stars."
I did not make top five, but felt it was kind of bogus because the person who was supposed to pick didn't do it so the one that hosts this stuff did and picked his own as one of the top five, which I thought was not a great photo. But, what do I know?
My husband and son at the end of the lane watching my daughter swim.
I had to take my daughter to the doctor today. She's been complaining of ear pain. Turns out she has swimmer's ear. She is not allowed to swim until the end of the week. She'll be missing practice all week, but at least she'll be able to participate in the end of the summer season all county meet at our local recreation complex on Saturday.

Last Summer Swim Meet
I usually work the ribbon table at my daughter's summer swim meets. This gives me a pool side seat during the meet. So, I get a different view of swimmers at times. This is one of the boys that my daughter swims with not only in the summer but also during the school year. He's an amazing swimmer and such a great kid. This is during his butterfly event.

Pool Day
Today was pool day. We got there early enough to be first in line. So, we had about a half hour wait for them to open the pool. One of my daughter's best friends went with us today.
So, it's been so freaking hot here most of the summer. This week has been no exception, that is, until today. Of course the one day this week we make it to the pool it's cloudy, windy and never even got up to the mid 80's while we were there. Thankfully, since it's been so hot, the water was far from cold.

Wild Bird Sanctuary
The kids and I went to the Wild Bird Sanctuary today. It's the first time I've been there, so it was a new experience for all of us. It was nice. Of course it's another day of HOT, but it's a small place so we were not out in the heat too much. A lot of it is shaded, too, which helped. We really enjoyed seeing the birds.
