Garden of the Butterfly House

Behind the Butterfly House is a garden.  It is usually bursting with color because of the flowers, but this year everything is suffering so much from the heat and dry weather.  However, it's still pretty.  Here are some pictures from that garden.

There is a pond in the garden that is fed by a rolling stream with several tiny waterfalls in it.  It is flanked by cattails and has a statue of a girl with a butterfly in the front of it.  I really love this pond.

More dry grass.

Photo a Day theme for day 17 was addiction.  My daughter and I indulged in one of my favorite addictions for lunch today.  St. Louis Bread Company or Panera to the rest of the world.

Butterfly House

Today, my kids and I went to the Butterfly House.  I love going there, the butterflies are just so beautiful.  It was nice there today because there were no field trips there, so it was not too crowded.  It was hot, but that's to be expected right now, I guess.  We really enjoyed being there.

Here are some pictures of the butterflies that I took while we were there.

There were also some really cool people to watch while we were there, too.  There was a man really giving special attention to the landscaping outside the Butterfly House.

There was a professional photographer there today.  I loved watching him do his thing.

This photographer was a great guy.  He saw a young girl trying to get a picture of a really pretty butterfly and he talked her through what to do and even helped her up onto a rock so she could get closer.  He stood there with her and helped her get the best picture she could with her phone.  It was so cool to watch.

Roots coming up out of the ground.

Today was supposed to be the sign day for Photo a Day on Instagram.  But, I did that on the day we were supposed to do favorite color.  So, I did favorite color today.  My favorite color is purple.  I am obsessed with purple.  So, here is a picture of some really pretty purple flowers.

July 15, 2012

I don't have a whole lot to post today.  First I want to show off what I bought yesterday at the Scottie Fun Match.  It's a planter and the head and tail both bobble.  I just LOVE it!!!!

These are my favorite flip flops that I own.

Today's theme for Photo a Day on Instagram was finger.  I made scrambled eggs for lunch, so figured I would get a picture of my finger on the spatula as I was cooking.

Scottie Fun Match Day

Today was the annual Scottie Fun Match put on by the Unofficial Scottish Terrier Club of Greater St. Louis to benefit the St. Louis Scottish Terrier Rescue.  It's a fun day with just fun categories for those of us who are not really into professional dog shows.  Our Izzy competed in the Best Kisser Category, Most Unusual Color Category, and walked with Michaela in the Junior Showmanship and in the puppy class for 12 -18 month old puppies.  Our Livvy competed in the Best/Longest Sitter Upper category and walked with Caleb in the Junior Showmanship category and the 12 - 18 month puppy category.  There is also a costume category that is always so much fun to watch.  My pictures are not great from this because the lighting is horrible in that place and there were tons of cameras flashing all over the place, but these are the pictures I took today, so they are what I'm posting.

Izzy decided that kissing a stranger was way too unsanitary for her.

Livvy got 2nd place for Best/Longest Sitter Upper

This is Gordon.  He lives in Kansas City.  He was the CUTEST little scuba diver EVER!

Hmmmm.... What's Cruella DaVille doing at a Scottish Terrier function?

Caleb showing Livvy.  Caleb got a really nice complement for a lady at the fun match who turned out to be the coordinator for the junior showmanship association.  Wow!  He'd never done this before.

Izzy got first place for 12 - 18 month old females.  So, she got to go again in best of females.  Here she is trying to stare down the competition.

This is me watching all the fun going on in the ring.

Today's theme for photo a day was building.  Tonight for supper Michael and I went down to Main Street.  We actually ate at Trailhead but I decided to take a picture of Old Mill Stream Inn because I could get a better angle on it.

More from Yesterday

After we went to the sculpture park yesterday, we went to Powder Valley Nature Reserve.  It's run by the Missouri Department of Conservation.  They have a very small museum and several trails that range in size from 1/3 of a mile to almost 3 miles.  We spent a little bit of time in the museum and then we walked along the shortest path because it was really getting hot again.

Since I forgot to take any "From Where I Stand" photos today, here's one of me standing in one of our parks where someone has thrown their beer can on the ground, just 10 feet from a trash can.  This really irritates me.  I picked it up and threw it away.  Why can't people be responsible enough to do this for themselves?

Today's theme for the Photo a Day in July was open.  I took a picture of the open table umbrellas at the pool where Michaela has swim practice.

At The Sculpture Park

Today I took the kids to Laumeier Sculpture Park.  It's been a few years since we've been there so there were a few new things.  I love going there, it's so much fun to explore and offers SO MANY opportunities for creative photography.  It was really hot there today, but we still enjoyed ourselves and I got a lot of good shots.  Here are some of my old favorites.

And, these are some of my new favorites.

Walking along the path.

Photo of the Day at Instagram was texture.  Had to use one from yesterday, because, well because I wanted to!
